Hello and welcome back to the Iguana Sell Channel.
Today we are going to talk about a beloved brand: Esterbrook. And you might be wondering, why are there so many types of Esterbrook? JR, standard, oversizes... maybe it's all a bit confusing, but that's why we're here, to help you.
Before we begin, it's important to understand that we are talking about the current stage of the brand. Esterbrook was founded in 1858 by Richard Esterbrook in Camden, New Jersey. Decades later, fountain pens had a tremendous boom and replaced dip pens. Esterbrook became a beloved brand in America for its elegant, simple models and wide variety. What's great is that they are used by students, for example, as well as artists like the creator of Snoopy and even Kennedy. And although the original company closed its doors in the 1970s, the Kenro company revived it and continues to create innovative and highly relevant fountain pens.
That being said, while the most popular collections used to be the Dollar and J series, currently the most relevant ones are the Estie. This name actually comes from the affectionate nickname these pens were called initially. And what are these pens like? They have some distinctive features that make them easily recognizable as Esties: their cigar-shaped silhouette, rounded forms, and the marbled effect in the design and texture of the pieces.
Furthermore, we have some basic and numerous models, but they also release limited editions that may have different materials and production, typically with a limited number of pieces.
Another characteristic is that there are two versions: the standard Estie and the Estie oversize. The oversize version is more suited for larger hands, but it's important to note that the cap cannot be posted on the body while writing. For this, we have the standard Estie, which can have the cap securely posted and has a perfect size.
Moving on from the Estie line, we have the JR, which refers to the old J series. This pen is a bit smaller, has a comfortable grip, with more square shapes... but truthfully, it is suitable for everyone. It's a pocket-sized pen, but it works perfectly, especially for beginners. Additionally, even though it's a smaller size, if you post the cap on the body, it becomes a standard-sized pen perfect for anyone.
And the last of their current collections: Camden. Inspired by the city where Richard Esterbrook founded his brand, it refers to designs from that era. The body is made of aluminum, lighter than the rest of the pens, and the designs are simple, elegant, and more classic.
What about the Esterbrook Phaeton? It's a lesser-known model compared to the other Esterbrook lines and refers to designs from the 1960s. It is also a more affordable pen with a distinctive vintage design. This model is very lightweight, with a resin body and a metal cap. Its unique feature is the nib, which complements the shape of the cap, giving it that distinctive touch in its design.
