Venezianico Nereide Ultraleggero Automatic Watch with Gray Dial.
Named after the Nereide, a Venetian-engineered submarine dating to 1919, the Nereide Ultraleggero 42 in gunmetal has a gunmetal-treated 316L steel case surrounding a patented 3-layer skeletonized dial. The dial takes its inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man.
The gray dial combines transparent PMMA with skeletonized surfaces in a radial satin finish. The hands and indices are treated with Swiss-made BGW9 Super-LumiNova. The Canova bracelet fastens with a folding clasp.
The 42 mm stainless steel 316L case, 13.4 mm thick, houses the Japanese Seiko NH70A automatic caliber, which drives the hours, minutes, and seconds through a skeletonized movement beneath a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. The case is closed by its 316L steel 120-click bezel and case back, with alternating screws and grooves and radial satin, micro-sandblasted, and polished finishes.

What does the name Nereide refer to?
A submarine of 1919 that Venezianico describes as a marvel of Venetian naval engineering. Nereide is Venezianico’s diving collection, built around a rotating bezel. Venezianico was founded in late 2017 by brothers Alberto and Alessandro Morelli while they were studying at Ca’ Foscari in Venice, and is based in San Donà di Piave.
How does the rotating dive bezel work?
The bezel turns in 120 clicks, each representing half a minute, so the marker lands exactly where you set it. You set the marker to the minute hand at the start of a dive and read elapsed time off the scale from there.
How do I restart the watch if it stops?
Turn the crown about 20 times to wind the mainspring, set the time, and put the watch on. The weight inside then keeps it wound as long as you wear it most days.
How hard is the sapphire crystal?
Synthetic sapphire sits at 9 on the Mohs scale, just under diamond, so the everyday abrasives that mark a mineral crystal do not scratch it. Sapphire is brittle, however, so avoid sharp impacts along the edge.
Who makes the movement?
Seiko Instruments in Japan, the arm that supplies movements to other houses under the NH and NE references. They are built to be serviced anywhere, allowing a mechanical watch to keep running for decades.
