Overview
The Pilot Custom 845 Deep Blue has an ebonite body finished by hand in urushi lacquer, with gold trim and a two-tone 18k gold nib. Successive layers of the traditional Japanese lacquer are applied over several weeks, building the depth and nuance of the polished blue surface as it changes with the light.
The Custom 845 was introduced in 2002 and continues Pilot’s Luccanite tradition of applying lacquer to machined ebonite, a technique the company patented in 1925. The roiro urushi finish gives the lacquer a polished surface, in a smaller format than the Custom Urushi.
The fountain pen has a screw-on cap and accepts Pilot ink cartridges or a compatible converter for bottled ink. A converter is included.
Made in Japan, it measures 146.3 mm capped, 132.6 mm uncapped, and 165.9 mm with the cap posted. The barrel is 13.2 mm wide, and the pen weighs 27 g capped and 16 g uncapped.
