The Namiki Yukari Milky Way fountain pen depicts a celestial scene across its cap and barrel. Introduced in 2016, the design includes the constellations Lyra and Aquila and the star Vega, bringing identifiable features of the night sky onto black urushi lacquer with gold trim.
The stars are rendered using Fuse-zaishiki, while raden supplies the mother-of-pearl elements. Togidashi Maki-e adds burnished lacquer decoration to the scene. Together, the different decorative techniques give the celestial shapes contrasting materials and finishes against the black ground, carrying the theme across both parts of the pen.
Made in Japan, the pen has a two-tone 18k gold nib and accepts ink cartridges or a converter for bottled ink. Its cap screws on, giving a capped length of 142.4 mm. Barrel width is 12 mm, and weight with the cap is 33 g.
