The Namiki Yukari Kusu Dama fountain pen depicts a decoration of flowers and herbs with roots in Japanese medicinal traditions. Plants once used as medicine became gifts, giving the motif a connection to both practical use and the exchange of meaningful objects. The herb decoration is set against a black lacquered surface with gold trim.
Kokkokai artisans render the scene in Togidashi-Hira Maki-e. The background and surrounding features are completed in burnished Togidashi Maki-e before the main design is added using Hira Maki-e. The floral and herbal subject is developed through that combination of flat and burnished lacquer decoration.
The Japanese-made pen has a two-tone 18k gold nib and accepts ink cartridges or a converter for bottled ink. It closes with a screw-on cap and measures 142.4 mm capped, with a barrel width of 12 mm and a weight of 33 g including the cap.
