Herbelin Newport Maréographe Watch with Blue Dial.
Created in 1988, Newport draws inspiration from the America’s Cup yachts at Newport, Rhode Island, and the portholes of transatlantic sailboats. Marking Newport’s 35th anniversary, the Maréographe is the first Herbelin with a tide indicator. Its case back marks the anniversary. The stainless steel 316L case measures 43 mm and is 10.65 mm thick.
The Swiss Ronda 4310 quartz caliber powers the hours, minutes, small seconds at 2 o’clock, the date at 4:30, and a tide indicator beneath a sapphire crystal. Tipped with a red anchor, the tide hand completes a rotation every 12 hours and 25 minutes, following the semi-diurnal cycle. Battery life is about 60 months.
The blue technical fabric strap with double white stitching measures 22 mm at the lugs and fastens with a folding clasp.

How did the Newport collection begin?
In 1988, inspired by the yachts of the America’s Cup at Newport, Rhode Island. It has since sold 500,000 pieces and remains Herbelin’s best-selling line. Herbelin has made watches since 1947. The family business is now in its 3rd generation, led since 2020 by the founder’s grandsons, Maxime and Mathieu Herbelin.
Where is it made?
In Herbelin’s workshops in Charquemont, in the French Jura near the Swiss border. Each watch is assembled by hand and passes 65 quality checks. Herbelin retains spare parts to restore its models, including older ones. The movements are Swiss.
Can I swim with it?
Its 10 atm rating is suitable for swimming and water activities. Keep the crown fully pushed in and do not operate it while the watch is wet. Rinse the watch in fresh water after wearing it in the sea.
How do you set the tide indicator?
Look up the next high or low tide for your coast. At that exact time, press the pusher at 2 o’clock and move the hand to high tide at 12 or low tide at 6. Reset it when you travel to another coast.
How well does the crystal hold up?
Sapphire rates 9 on the Mohs scale and is among the most scratch-resistant materials used in watchmaking. Few things encountered in everyday wear will mark it, though a hard impact can still crack it.
