watches

The perfect accessory for diving enthusiasts

The good weather is approaching and opens with it the season of bathing in the pool and the sea. Nothing better to accompany you in those moments than a good diver's watch, that is to say, a submersible watch that also has certain characteristics that make it appropriate for its specific use oriented to diving.

The difference between a submersible watch and a diver's watch lies in its technical complexities. Thus, a submersible watch is one that presents a certain level of resistance to moisture and pressure of certain aquatic immersions. The water-resistance of the automatic or quartz watch will determine the levels to which it can be submerged. It is also necessary to take into account the materials in which the watch has been made. As an example, it should be noted that the use of a submersible watch in salt water is only possible when the case is made of stainless steel.

On the other hand, the technical complexity of diver watches is much greater, and they must comply with certain standards set by ISO 6425. ISO 6425 is an international standard that defines the characteristics of a diver's watch or diving watch and guarantees that it has been subjected to the necessary tests to ensure its correct functioning and quality. Among the main and mandatory requirements are:

  • Water resistance: diver watches must have a water resistance equal to or greater than 100 meters, i.e. 10 atm.
  • Diving time control: diver watches have a rotating numbered bezel with a protection system against unintentional rotation. In this way the diver can control the dive time, aligning the bezel with the minute hand at the time of immersion.
  • Luminescent material: the diver's watch must have illuminated elements and must be legible in the dark from a distance of at least 25 cm.
  • Magnetic resistance: both quartz and mechanical watches can be magnetized, i.e. their mechanical parts can be magnetized when confronted with magnetic fields of medium or high intensity. The watch must maintain its accuracy within ± 30 seconds/day despite the magnetic field.
  • Shock and salt water resistance: watch manufacturers usually test the watch by leaving it in a sodium chloride solution for at least 24 hours. One of the materials that best resists the impact of salt water is stainless steel or rubber.
  • Helium valve and screw-down crown: some diver watches have a helium valve to compensate for the pressure during ascent and descent.

At Iguana Sell we have a great variety of brands that work with this type of watches, each one with its own technical specifications.
